Camping Commitment Statement
As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His gospel, lead from a mastery-level understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and ensure that all camp staff are supported and equipped in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them.
Mission & Authority Through both formal training and direct experience, learn how to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the role as a camp manager.
Lead the camp staff to provide the finest possible platform for the presentation of the gospel.
This leadership is performed by assuring financial stability of the camp, safety of all persons on the camp property and operating the property in compliance with Young Life’s National Camping standards.
Essential Duties: Mission & Methods: Lead the community to ensure the health, safety and security of all guests and staff at camp (physically, emotionally and spiritually) as the Mission, Vision, Values and Methods of Young Life are implemented at camp.
Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
Demonstrate a deep relationship with Jesus, commitment to spiritual formation and understanding of their personal ministry to others.
With support from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan utilizing the Individual Development Plan for yourself and ensure that all staff are developing an annual spiritual growth plan.
Foster an environment where camp staff have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of their personal spiritual growth plan.
Lead staff in the common vision to create opportunities for guests to encounter Jess, know the truth of God's love for them, and grow in an authentic, personal relationship with Christ.
Develop content that directs and supports spiritual development and discipleship in an adventure setting.
Engage with the spiritual formation of all involved with our adventure camp program, whether committee, alumni, former staff, donors, or field staff.
Perform sacerdotal duties, as appropriate Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors through Christ-like service.
Establish a culture of service and facility preparation that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
Demonstrate an understanding of hospitality as an essential role of the entire camp staff.
Manage a guest care centric environment of hospitality as an essential role of the staff.
Partner with assignment teams, field staff, committee, and our staff teams in order to produce a successful adventure program.
Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.
Build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.
Ensure staff demonstrate the importance of their interpersonal relationships with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors and promote a healthy community.
Effectively lead staff to operate camp and run all departments.
Build and equip a team that reflect the world wide body of Christ.
Collaborate with the field senior vice president, camping coordinator, regional directors and area staff on all matters involving use of the camp as an environment where where adolescents are introduced to Jesus and helped to grow in their faith.
Partner with the camping committee in order to hear and appropriately respond to the concerns and desires of the Young Life staff they represent.
Participate with divisional leadership, national leadership and peers in training events and opportunities.
Build and maintain healthy relationships and communication with alumni, donors, field staff, and community during and outside of the summer camp season.
Comprehensive Stewardship: Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.
Manage comprehensive stewardship in partnership with Camping Services.
Ensure staff are being developed and equipped to participate in comprehensive stewardship of our ministry.
Responsible for revenues and expenditures in alignment with camping department’s financial policies and procedures.
Execute the camp’s business planning cycle with guidance from the camping coordinator.
Partner with mission leadership to determine fundraising priorities and funds for the further development of the camp.
This includes the cultivation and maintenance of donor relationships in collaboration with Young Life’s development team.
Administer reservation systems, including setting up contracts, communicating with YL trip leaders and settling accounts for each trip.
Talent Development: Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training.
Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
Foster camp staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process as well as other training and development opportunities.
Identify and develop staff suitable for additional leadership opportunities.
Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.
Execute the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process for building a diverse and qualified team.
Ensure completion and documentation of annual performance evaluations and salary reviews with all staff.
Embracing Excellence: Standing on the platform of national standards and metrics we gladly prepare an environment that glorifies Jesus Christ.
Ensure camp planning and operations are consistent with the National Board and Camping department policies and within the standards and metrics required for excellence.
As an agent of Young Life, ensure compliance with governmental agencies whose jurisdiction effect camp operations.
Cast vision, create culture, and set the pace for a healthy attitude and commitment to continuous improvement of the camp environment.
Ensure the creation of distraction-free environments that represent the multi-faceted love of God through the quality of facilities and the camp experience.
Training Expectations Ability and willingness to travel at least 3 times a year.
Camp or Job-Specific Working Conditions The Adventure Camp Manager requires a versatile individual who will effectively divide their time between the responsibilities of Camp Manager of Pioneer Plunge and Maintenance Technician at Windy Gap.
The successful candidate will seamlessly transition between these roles, balancing the distinct demands of each to ensure the overall success and efficiency of both functions.
Because of Pioneer Plunge’s seasonal nature, this position will join the Windy Gap Sites & Facilities Team during the slower season.
This position will require a multifaceted person who can have skills in marketing, administration, financial planning, and maintenance.
Successful candidates should demonstrate the capability to work autonomously, taking initiative and showing self-direction when needed.
Additionally, they should be adept at functioning within a team environment, contributing positively to collective efforts, and fostering a collaborative work culture.
